13-Day Kilimanjaro Hike & Safari

A private 13-day expedition that combines Mount Kilimanjaro via the Marangu Route with a mid-range safari across Tanzania’s Northern Circuit. After arrival and preparation, climbers experience rainforest, moorland, alpine desert and the summit before transitioning into game drives in Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Serengeti.

This journey runs for 13 Days / 12 Nights, beginning with arrival and a dedicated pre-climb preparation day before the mountain and safari programme.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Moshi

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Moshi. Check in, relax and recover from your journey.

Day 2

Pre-climb Preparation

Meet the lead guide for a detailed route and safety briefing, full gear check and final equipment arrangements.

Day 3

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Driving/trekking time: ~1 hr to gate.

Day 4

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Leave the rainforest and climb through heath and moorland, with increasingly open views of Mawenzi and Kibo.

Day 5

Acclimatization at Horombo Hut

Take an active acclimatization hike to a higher elevation, then return for rest, hydration and preparation for the upper mountain.

Day 6

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Cross the alpine desert between Mawenzi and Kibo, moving at a measured pace before final summit preparation.

Day 7

Summit Day: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Descent to Horombo

Start before midnight for the climb to Gilman’s Point and Uhuru Peak, then descend carefully through the alpine zone after the summit.

Day 8

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Transfer to Arusha

Driving/trekking time: 2.5–3 hrs.

Day 9

Tarangire National Park

Driving/trekking time: Time: 2.5 hrs.

Day 10

Ngorongoro Crater

Driving/trekking time: ~2 hrs.

Day 11

Serengeti National Park

Driving/trekking time: 3–4 hrs.

Day 12

Serengeti to Arusha

Driving/trekking time: 6–7 hrs.

Day 13

Departure

Driving/trekking time: 1 hr.
